Any recommendations on some really good book review websites for books on the stock market?

The Book Review
maskedmarada2000 asked:

I'm thinking of buying a load of books about the stock market that is, as the stock market can help make money. I spent reviewed with some Web site and the prices are not looking cheap, lol. Most books on action / parts are repeating what other authors syaing. I want a Web site that can give me to gradually (ie beginners, mediator, level expert) reading and learning. I am not entirely sure about putting my money on seminars or programmes that are hosted by people who think they know play the game just yet. Note 1: I am not looking for books on economic theory – I am going to make a qualification of graduate and masters of stipes on it, I want something more personal – more than a book about personal experiences. Note 2: If possible, gradica a list of Web site that shows the reviews book on short shares of short-circuit

  1. Most online brokers provide basic tutorials as part of their client offerings.

If you are looking at long term investing and are not just out to make a quick buck then look for:

‘Reminiscences of a Stock Operator’ by Edwin Lefevre. Classic text explaining all the principles of stock picking. Reverse the principles to select ‘shorts’.

If you are going to be ‘shorting’ then I suggest you know what you are doing before you start. You have some brass balls my friend! Be prepared to lose!

  2. Here is a couple I’ve read and they are really great but you want to go in order.Stock Investing for Dummies, Trading for Dummies, 24 Essential Lessons for Investment Success, A Begginers Guide to Day Trading Online

  3. Amazon has a very complete list of books on investing and the stock market complete with reader reviews.

  4. There’s a run through of what the best books are on The Motley Fool UK as part of a beginners guide to investing:

This I’ve used to help bodge together a selection of Investing books on one of my Amazon UK aStores (most of which come with reviews):

  5. You can learn a lot from Investopedia for free. For stocks, check out some used books by Bogle on mutual funds. If you want to build up a finance library over time, you can also start with the CFA reading list too.

There are a lot of scams in the stock market. Remember that many more people benefit from you being uneducated than educated. If you’re uneducated or poorly educated, then you will make bad financial moves and give them your money in either advisory fees, transaction fees, or training fees.

As a student of the stock market, you should be aware that academic theory is extremely important, and the stock market has been studied extensively since 1900 and at least five Nobel prizes in economics have been given out on the subject. The recipients are: Markowitz, Sharpe, Fama, French, and Tobin. You should understand the practical contributions that each one has made to portfolio management. All of this research is free and on Investopedia. I have some on my own web site too.

Nobody has mastered the stock market and anyone who says they does and who does not have a Nobel prize medal on their chest is lying. All investments carry downside risk and nobody has shown that they can consistently call market tops or bottoms. All technical analysis is a scam. Nobody can use a string of prices to predict future prices.

Also, you will want to use excel to model your investment strategies using either randomly generated stock prices or real stock prices from Yahoo. You will be very surprised at how volatile your returns are and how much luck is involved. If you trade options, modeling is a must.
